Judith Herrmann and Claire Holland, lecturers in the Conflict Management and Resolution Program at James Cook University, ran a conflict management training session for recently settled refugees and migrants in Townsville in the beginning of this month. The training was part of a leadership program, organised by Townsville Multicultural Support Group Inc. (TMSG), to assist culturally and linguistically diverse people in the community. During the training, participants were introduced to thinking about conflict across cultures, how to manage it personally and how to assist others to manage conflict in their lives.
The TMSG is a not for profit organization in the human services sector. The Settlement team supports refugees and migrants in their initial settlement and with access to major community services and access to education, employment, recreational support through information and referral for the first 5 years of being in Australia. To find out more about the work of TMSG visit their website: http://www.tmsg.org.au/
