An opportunity exists to contribute to the safety, wellbeing and best interests of the children of Queensland through the work of the Child Protection Conferencing Unit within the Dispute Resolution Branch. The role involves providing intake services for families and professionals attending court ordered conferences under the Child Protection Act 1999. These conferences discuss the future care of children deemed to be at risk. The Dispute Resolution Branch (DRB) assists the community manage its disputes more effectively: generally without having to go to court. It does this by providing a range of dispute resolution services: civil mediation, restorative justice mediation for suitable criminal matters and child protection conferences as well as training in mediation and conflict management through six Dispute Resolution Centres (DRC) in Queensland
